oh what fleeting moments I should capture, oh what memories I should still possess

bare feet

I was recently at National Harbor with my family, and I just had to take this picture. What I see is a pair of shoes, pretty, dressy and oh-so-tall. What I think is how wonderful it must have been to step out of those shoes and get her bare toes into the sand. What I feel is joy, anticipation, excitement, and a return to my heart of all things youthful.

No one thing can define

who we are.

  1. Love it! Those heels were meant to be kicked off. I’ll take barefoot anyday!

    • I don’t go barefoot very much, but I couldn’t wear those shoes at all. If I didn’t take them off quickly, I’d be sure to fall off!

      • Same here about the shoes. Pretty, but dangerous. Don’t you go barefoot around the house? Or wear flip flops? (I’m sure you can tell I live where it’s almost always warm.)

        • I don’t wear shoes in the house normally, but I usually wear socks or slippers. When I was a kid, we were barefoot all summer long – didn’t matter how hot the asphalt got!

          • Same here, we were barefoot all summer long, even when the tar in the streets would bubble up from the heat. Our soles must have been like leather.

  2. Great picture. Could be the cover of a book. Some kind of mystery thriller with a love story.
